Rumors continue that the once-favored campaign attache is now on the outs with President Donald Trump after “allegedly” engaging in a rivalry with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner

MSNBC’s Morning Joe discussed the publicly fraying relationship between President Trump and his advisor, former National Security Council member Steve Bannon. Rumors have persisted for the past week and a half that Steve Bannon, also still linked to his former publication Breitbart, was the source of anti-Jared Kushner hit pieces published on the website. Joe Scarborough says that White House insiders are baffled that Steve Bannon has decided to take on the President’s own in-laws, especially since Jared Kushner was given such a large portfolio in the Trump administration, and many predict Bannon’s days in the White House may be numbered. The Chicago Tribune published an amazing analysis of the situation, Trump doesn’t exactly give Steve Bannon a vote of confidence.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Donald Trump downplayed Steve Bannon’s strategic involvement with the 2016 presidential campaign, saying, “I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump said. “I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn’t know Steve. I’m my own strategist, and it wasn’t like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.”

Steve Bannon joined the Trump campaign in August, working with campaign manager Kellyanne Conway to push forward the strategy that they believed led to Hillary Clinton’s loss in November. Kellyanne Conway, after a series of media embarrassments, has disappeared from the spotlight but remains in the White House. The Bannon situation recalls the Michael Flynn debacle earlier this year and shows that President Trump has no qualms about abandoning allies should they prove to deleterious to his cause in some perceived way. Michael Flynn’s role with the campaign was severely downplayed by the Trump administration following revelations that Flynn lied about meetings with Russian officials during the campaign.
