Prolific Japanese RPG maker and software powerhouse Square Enix announced the addition of another member of the Final Fantasy series of games with the debut of a spin-off of a spin-off, Dissidia Final Fantasy: Omnia Opera, coming soon for both iOS and Android in Japan. Fans may recall the Dissidia Final Fantasy games for Sony’s Playstation Portable (PSP) system – Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia Final Fantasy Duodecim 012 – but even if you haven’t experienced those games, Omnia Opera promises to be a new take on the innovative fighting mechanic originally introduced in the PSP games.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Omnia Opera joins Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, and Mobius Final Fantasy as part of Square Enix’s expanded mobile RPG offerings. While Dissidia focused on a unique fighting game mechanic that combined classical FF gameplay with a one-on-one combat oriented focus, Omnia Opera looks like it might be a cooperative game in the more traditional Final Fantasy vein.

Like Record Keeper and Brave Exvius, Omnia Opera collects the heroes and villains of past Final Fantasy entries and pits them against each other. As to the whether there will be a collection element in Dissidia Final Fantasy: Omnia Opera like those found in Final Fantasy: Record Keeper and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius remains to be seen, but no doubt some kind of repetitive, incentivization mechanic will make an appearance in the new mobile title.
