Pre-release hype has this game taking it all this year and, while usually skeptical of such things, everything shown thus far has done nothing to disabuse this. While the Silent Hills and Resident Evils of the genre have held top spot for well over a decade now, new entries like The Last of Us, as well as The Walking Dead mobile game, have expanded the genre beyond purely B-grade horror or Japanese horror fare. Featuring two protagonists who interact continuously throughout the game, The Last of Us focuses on a cross-country journey in a post-plague United States where the humanity that remains lives in military-controlled quarantine or brave the countryside where they face zombie-like infected and desperately ruthless survivors. The Last of Us should be on everyone’s list.
