Google Shows Details of North Korea’s Kwan-li-so (관리소) Labor Camps on Google Maps

Internet-search and tech giant Google is known worldwide for its comprehensive maps, compiled using a variety of methods in order to make the physical world as navigable as the ethereal world of the internet.

Now, Google’s tech is being used to compile, identify, and make available to the world the locations of North Korea’s greatest horrors: The dreaded kwan-li-so (관리소), or political labor camps, to which many North Koreans deemed socially undesirable by the regime in Pyongyang go to live and die, sometimes for generations.

Human rights groups estimate that as many as 250,000 people are held in the kwan-li-so (관리소) system.
