Tibetan Man in Gansu Province Reportedly Commits Self-Immolation to Protest the PRC’s Rule of Tibet

Free Tibet, an organization based in London, UK, and dedicated to the total independence of Tibet from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), reported the man’s self-immolation and placed his age at 22. The immolation reportedly occurred in China’s Gansu province.

Self-immolation is a brutal form of protest exercised by Tibetans protesting China‘s rule over their country which was gradually annexed as part of China beginning in the 1950s.

The People’s Republic of China denies any reports of oppression of Tibetan people and instead points to the rising standard of living in Tibet under the Communist Party’s guidance as evidence of their benevolent rule over the vast, mountainous land bordering regional rival India.
