South Korea Shuts Down Two Nuclear Power Plants After Discovery of Unauthorized Components

Republic of Korea Knowledge Economy Minister Hong Suk-woo reported that the components in violation were non-critical components and thus not a safety threat but the shutdown of the plants could mean unprecedented levels of power outages in the coming months.

“It’s inevitable that we will experience [an] unprecedented power shortage during the coming winter with the two reactors shut.”
