What a Day! North Korean Man Gets Drunk, Falls into Ocean, and Floats to Freedom in the South

Few things in life can really be called luck, but for one man from North Korea, an evening of drinking turned into a new life in South Korea.

According to the Yonhap News Agency in South Korea, a North Korean man was found hiding in a civilian’s house in Ganghwa, west of Seoul. The man claims to have floated on a wooden board off the coast of Gyodong Island. The North Korean citizen is now in the custody of the South Korean marine corps.

According to South Korean law, any North Korean who wishes to return to North Korea may do so but the citizen also may choose stay in South Korea.
