The massive volcano Fuego, located 40 kilometers south of Guatemala City, erupted on September 13 and lava flows over 600 meters long, coupled with ash ejected into the air, has forced the evacuation of more than 10,000 within the immediate range of the volcanic crater.

This is the second eruption of a volcano this year as neighboring volcano Pacaya erupted as recently as May. Fuego‘s eruptionĀ has also caused the closure of airports and schools in addition to darkening the skies with its ash.
