France is not as vilified within the Islamic republic but has championed calls to ban imports to the European Union of Iranian oil and also proposed a freezing of Iranian bank assets. In addition to the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands have also brought diplomatic staff home also in preemptive measures to protects their nationals stationed within Tehran.
