Ethiopian troops have reportedly entered neighboring Somalia in search of al-Shabaab fighters only weeks after Kenyan troops entered Somalia under a similar pretense. The Ethiopian government would neither confirm nor deny the troop movements according to the report from Al Jazeera although someone speaking on the condition of anonymity said that the troops could have been sent to support the Kenyan troops in their mission against the al-Shabaab fighters. Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen or the ‘Movement of Striving Youth’ or more commonly al-Shabaab (‘The Boys’) is an organization that seeks the overthrow of the Somali Transitional Federal Government and is the focus of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). It is an Islamist terrorist organization known for its attacks, kidnappings and killings of foreign aid workers that it accuses of harboring ulterior motives with regard to Somalia.
