We Regret to Inform You but Your City Has Been Cancelled.

If you are a resident of Chaohu in China, you aren’t any longer. The Chinese government has divided up the city of Chaohu, population 4 million, among its three larger neighbors, in effect canceling Chaohu’s existence. Residents were not aware that this was happening until after it was already completed. Neighboring Hefei’s growth has been hindered by a lack of land so the infusion from Chaohu will be greatly appreciated. The move is to maximize GDP growth and Chaohu on its own just couldn’t justify itself any longer. This might be why the Chinese aren’t terribly impressed with our government’s deficit reduction proposals thus far.
