SANA, Syria’s official news agency, has Bashar al-Assad claiming that media distortion has led to a great number of misconceptions to grow in the public’s perception of events on the ground in Syria. Of course, al-Assad is blaming the unrest and destruction in his country on rebel elements backed by foreign conspiracies, which may or may not be partially true. What is true is that Bashar al-Assad’s supporters are not loathe to exercise violence in support of their cause either. al-Assad made these statements during a visit by the International Committee of the Red Cross to Syria.
