Syrian Shabeeha attack popular cartoonist Ali Ferzat in the capital’s Ummayad Square.

Bashar al-Assad’s Ba’athist militiamen have allegedly attacked and broken the hands of famed Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat to silence him. This comes after many international calls for Bashar al-Assad to relinquish power in the deteriorating situation in Syria. Ali Ferzat’s plight shows the extent to which some governments are willing to go to quiet even the most innocuous of political opposition, such as making anti-regime cartoons. Solidarity for Ali Ferzat’s plight has been expressed on his webpage, his Facebook and a Facebook support page created in his honor. Only when good people say nothing do things like this occur. Support freedom in the Middle East, and pray for a speedy resolution of the Syrian situation.
